The Cosmos Bio Certificate — What It Actually Means and Why It Matters

The word "natural" on a cosmetic label means nothing. It's unregulated, unverified, unguaranteed. Any brand can print it on their packaging — with no obligation to prove what's actually inside. That's exactly why, when we built Senne, we looked for something beyond a pretty story on a label.

Some of us have personal reasons for being careful about what we put on our skin. Endocrine disruptors, carcinogenic ingredients, petrochemicals — these aren't abstract concepts. For many women, they're everyday concerns. And once you understand how much of what you apply to your skin passes directly into your bloodstream, you start reading ingredient lists very differently.

What Is the Cosmos Bio Certificate?

Cosmos Bio is an independent certificate awarded by Ecocert Greenlife — one of the most respected and rigorous organisations in the world of natural and organic cosmetics. To obtain this certification, a brand must undergo a thorough evaluation of its entire production process — from the origin of raw materials to the finished product.

It's not enough for a single ingredient to be organic. The entire formulation must meet strict criteria.

What Does Cosmos Bio Actually Guarantee?

A minimum of 95% naturally derived ingredients, with a significant portion required to be certified organic. A complete ban on petrochemicals, parabens, GMO ingredients, synthetic fragrances and colorants. Full transparency across the entire production chain — from field to shelf. Regular independent audits that every brand must pass each year.

This is not a one-time label. The certificate must be renewed, which means a brand cannot earn it once and quietly abandon its standards.

Natural, Organic, Cosmos Bio — Three Words That Don't Mean the Same Thing

Many consumers use these terms interchangeably, as if they mean the same thing. They don't.

"Natural" is not a regulated term — not in Serbia, not in the EU. Any brand can print it on their packaging with no obligation, no verification, no accountability. A product labelled "natural" can still contain synthetic fragrances, mineral oils and preservatives that you wouldn't be thrilled to find on the ingredient list.

"Organic" is a step forward, but even this term is not a guarantee on its own. Without an accompanying certificate from an independent organisation, "organic" on a label is simply a marketing decision — not a verified standard.

Cosmos Bio is the only one of these three that carries real weight. Independent verification, concrete standards, annual audits. A brand cannot buy this certificate — it must earn it, and must continue earning it every single year. That is the difference between a story and proof.

Why This Matters to Us

Prirodna nega kože — clean beauty filozofija Senne concept

Cosmos Bio is one of the standards we value when selecting brands. But it's not our only criterion. We look for brands with a clear philosophy, clean formulations and an honest relationship with both skin and consumer. We ask who stands behind the brand, why they founded it, and whether their values truly live in every product — or just on their website. A certificate is proof — but the story behind the brand is what truly interests us.

The Cosmos Bio mark on a product is not decorative. It's proof that someone answered the hard questions before the product ever reached you. That someone thought about you — about your skin, your health, your choice — before the formulation ever made it into the packaging.

Read the labels. With us, you don't have to — we've already done it for you.💛
